The Sun Lakes Chorale has about 75 members, many of whom are part-time Sun Lakes residents. Singing together is a bonding experience. The longer we are members of the Chorale, the more members we get to know and the deeper our friendships become. We sing together and we laugh together.

The Chorale has certainly changed over the past twenty years, but we remain faithful to the founding principle that sharing our love of singing with each other and our community is our reason to exist. The experience of singing for an audience and wanting to touch their hearts in a memorable way warms our own hearts.

Not long after Cris became our Director, she read to us from a 2004 article written by Dr. Karl Paulnack, Director of the Music Division of the Boston Conservatory of Music. She wanted us to understand that we are instruments of comfort. Dr. Paulnack said that musicians use music to keep the world well because music has a way of finding the big, invisible moving pieces inside our hearts and souls and helping us figure out the position of things inside us. Music is one of the ways in which we express feelings when we have no words, a way for us to understand things with our hearts when we can’t with our minds. He wanted us to understand that our music has the power to lift a burdened heart and refresh a weary soul.
